Guest Speaker: Dr. Elena Garcia Ansani, Executive Director, Latino Resources, Evanston
Dr. Ansani shares her personal experiences as a Latina woman, social entrepreneur and community leader. Drawing from decades of journaling, her reflections highlight her personal recollections of the civil rights movement, discrimination, destruction of her self-esteem and how her self-determination was the driving force of her healing and embracing of her identity with unyielding conviction. She discusses the opportunity gaps impacting Latino students and how Latino Resources programs and services are positively impacting her community.
As Executive Director of Latino Resources, Dr. Garcia Ansani has many responsibilities, such as establishing capacity-building community engagement partnerships with educational, government and nonprofit organizations; training and supervising volunteer teams; developing and implementing strategic action plans; devising and managing the annual budget; and organizing bilingual support systems for community members. She holds a Doctor of Education from National Louis University in Disability and Equity in Education and a Master of Arts from that same university in Special Education. She has taught courses at Northwestern, National Louis University, Oakton Community College and Columbia College Chicago.
